Explanation of options:
Premium Smooth Finish approximates the surface of a honed limestone*. It is not as smooth as polished marble; however, much smoother than the sandy limestone texture of the Etched Finish. All finishes are available in your choice of standard colors or custom colors.
*Premium Smooth Finish will be less smooth on mantels that were reproduced from limestone originals (R-02, R-03, R-05, R-07 & R-08).
Standard Hearth The hearth stone is the noncombustible surface in front of the firebox that the mantel stands on. The Standard Hearth option provides a 2" thick, eased edge slab of the same cast stone material as the mantel in an appropriate overall size (see the Standard Hearth sizing). Typically this is cast in three sections to facilitate handling. Custom sizes and configurations are available.
Standard Facing: Typically the mantel opening is larger than the firebox opening. The exposed area surrounding the firebox and within the mantel opening can be veneered with an attractive material for a finished look. Usually this material is the same material as is used for the hearth. Our standard facing is made from the same cast stone material and to fit the "as built" firebox to the ordered mantel. The mantel can be notched on site by your installer to overlap the facing or the mantel can be notched at the factory (usually $200).
Hearth and Facing prices include insured shipping.
Often clients fabricate the Hearth and Facing from materials such as limestone or marble that is locally available to them. We are happy to offer advice and guidance to assure a successful job.
